About the STORY :

" A teenager’s act of charity leads him to an old man waiting for a promise that was never kept. In the silence of a Vridhhashram, truth, pain, and hope appears! "

In the race for modernity, humans are becoming selfish and narrow-minded. In their pursuit of material comforts, they forget the very parents who helped them achieve success. This is the result of the fading spirit of the joint family.

The story is about Ajay, who has settled in the city with his wife Nisha and son Shravan. His father, Purushottam, a retired teacher, leaves the village for the city, but instead of bringing him home, Ajay places him in an old-age home.

One day, Shravan unexpectedly arrives at the old-age home with his friends, where he encounters Purushottam sitting alone—without knowing that he is his grandfather. The conditions there move him deeply.

Returning home, he asks his father why he hasn't performed his grandfather's funeral. Ajay evades the question, but upon Shravan's investigation, he discovers the truth from letters found in the cupboard: Purushottam is his grandfather. To make his father realize his guilt, he, along with his friends, staged an accident and death.

Ajay's heart is transformed by his son's enlightening play. He apologizes to his father and brings him home. The family is reunited under one roof.

>> The message of this film is that family unity is the true happiness and dharma of life. The joint family system is a perfect example of family enlightenment.

Director's Statement

Monaksh N. Kanirkar

I personally think film is very straight forward if we deal with core concept of old parents getting thrown out of their family by their children, as they become Old – grumpy, little dependent on their children or may be due to some age related illness still in today’s modern society and nuclear family culture see them as “Burden”, this mentality of such people still in today’s world shook me from within.

I, LIKE SHRAVAN IN STORY, coincidently went to Vridhhashram to do charity after my own grandfather died 2 months prior the short film shoot. My grandfather was with us as a joint family and passed away due to cancer at our home, after his final rituals I went to Vridhhashram to do charity and talked to few of Members and Old people there and after listening to their stories I really felt for them. Thus, the idea of this short film born, same time we were planning to take part in International Sanskrit short Film festival and decided to make this story in Sanskrit.
We are have won for on of the award of BEST MOVIE for this Sanskrit short film in ISSFF2026 and got special appreciation from jury telling me “If this story turned into full feature film than it will make a history, audience will cry and hug their parents after watching it.” – I am quoting same words here.
